Oppo, a Chinese manufacturer of mobile devices, has announced the release of a second-generation folding phone as well as its initial assault on Samsung’s Flip. Both have been sold in China, but Oppo’s flip-style phone will be the company’s first foldable to hit international markets.
The Find N2 is Oppo’s follow-up to the Find N from a year ago, and the company claims that it is the “lightest horizontally foldable smartphone in the industry” at 233 g (8.2 oz) for the version with black vegan leather. When closed, the Find N2 measures a mere 14.6 mm (0.57 in).
The folding phone has the second-generation Flexion hinge from the business, which is more sturdy and has a smaller and thinner design than the first. It now only has 100 parts, including high-strength metal and carbon fiber, and has passed TUV testing for at least 400,000 folding cycles.
The 7.1-inch, 1,920 x 1,792-resolution AMOLED display is reported to fold out with a lot less noticeable crease because of the new design, and there is no gap when the phone is closed to reveal a 5.54-inch, 2,120 x 1,080-resolution AMOLED screen with a narrow bezel. Both displays use color temperature sensors and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, allowing onscreen images to automatically adjust to the surrounding lighting. The maximum brightness of the inner display is 1,550 nits, while the maximum brightness of the outer screen is 1,350 nits.

With up to 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, the Oppo Find N2 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 mobile platform, which features an octa-core CPU and integrated graphics. The phone has 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 (with support for aptX HD, LDAC, and LHDC codecs), and Oppo’s ColorOS 13 operating system, which is based on Android 13. A 4,520-mAh battery that supports 67-W rapid charging is also present.
The split-screen function has been improved by the company and is now activated by a two-finger swipe down the center of the 7.1-inch screen. Swiping three fingers down the left or right sides of the display will capture the app that is currently running in those areas, but doing so in the middle will capture the entire screen. When in FlexForm mode, the device may take on the appearance of a little laptop such that the top screen can be used to watch content and the bottom screen can be used as a touchpad.

The Hasselblad-tuned triple camera array consists of a 50-MP main module with a Sony IMX890 sensor and optical image stabilization, a 49-MP ultra-wide, and a 32-MP telephoto lens. The Find N2’s photography abilities are completed by a 32-MP selfie cam.
The Find N2 Flip, which according to Oppo has been in development for three years, is said to have the largest cover screen of any flip-style phone at 720 x 382 pixels. Users may read up to six notifications at once on this AMOLED display, which has a refresh rate of either 30 or 60 Hz and a maximum brightness of 900 nits. They can also examine images taken with the “flagship-level camera system.”
A 6.8-inch, 2,520 x 1,080-resolution AMOLED display with a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and a peak brightness of 1,600 nits is provided to customers when the latest Flexion hinge is flipped out.
Oppo’s first flip-style phone and it’s first foldable to be released internationally is the Find N2 Flip.
The phone is powered by a specialized MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset with integrated graphics and an octa-core processor running at up to 3.2 GHz. It appears that the system will support 8/12/16 GB of RAM and 256/512 GB of storage. Again, this device is powered by Oppo’s ColorOS 13, and Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 are also included for connectivity (but this lacks LHDC codec support).
A 32-MP selfie camera is included for 1,080p video chats at 30 frames per second, as well as a 50-MP main and an 8-MP super-wide lens on the rear camera array. Finally, its 4,300 mAh battery, which enables 44-W fast charging, is regarded as good for all-day use.
The Find N series now blatantly competes with Samsung in the foldable phone industry, but with a smaller market penetration – at least for one of the new phones. Following today’s announcement, both devices immediately became available in China. They were both unveiled at Oppo’s annual Inno Day. Next year, the Find N2 Flip will become available everywhere.
