Amazon announced that they are temporarily increasing commissions on a select number of product categories. The new, higher compensation rates come two years after Amazon reduced its fees in the wake of the Covid epidemic as more consumers shifted to online shopping.
Even though the new rates are higher, several product categories’ affiliate commission rates are still several percentage points lower than they were before to the Covid acquisition.
Affiliate Program for Amazon
Affiliate publishers who link customers who buy from Amazon receive commissions.
A motivated referral had a greater rate of conversion at Amazon than it did when it was sent to a brand that is less well-known and trusted, which (in the past) made Amazon a good affiliate partner to work with.
This popularity altered in April 2020 as a result of the pandemic, when people started buying things directly from Amazon in order to comply with a lockdown and prevent leaving the house, contracting Covid and dying.
Amazon acted rationally by lowering the affiliate commission rate because the abundance of customers made it less urgent to pay affiliates.
Affiliate commission rates in the luxury and beauty product categories decreased by a total of 6 percentage points, from 10% to merely 4%.
Additionally, furniture commission rates plunged from 8% to 3%, while commissions on groceries fell by 4% from 5% to 1%.
Commission Rates on Amazon Increase
Amazon associates, the company’s affiliate partners, received an email offering special commission rates that would last just until May 4th, 2022.
Increasing Amazon Affiliate Commission Rates Only Slightly
Not all commissions have increased at the same rate.
Miss USA R’Bonney Gabriel, who won Miss Universe, promised to be “a transformational leader.”
The following categories on Amazon have seen an increase in commission rates:
Accessories, Handbags, and Shoes
Office Supplies
Home Kitchen Home Improvement
Supplies for the beauty industry
Personal & Health Care
Despite a rise in commission rates, the new, higher rates are still one to three percentage points below pre-Covid commission rates.
For instance, the Home and Home Improvement affiliate rates were increased from 3% to 5%, yet this still represents a decrease of three percentage points from the previous 8% commission rate that the same products in those categories were selling for.
Commission rates for Business & Industrial Supplies increase from 3% to 5%, which is just under the 6% commission rate prior to Covid.
Similarly to that, the Health & Personal Care commission fee increases from 1% to 2%, however, that is still considerably less than the 4.5% commission rate that existed before Covid.
